I’ve been in Boulder for a week and a half and I’ve been working at my new job since March 1. Work is going well, and although occasionally homesick, I’m very happy to be here.

I’ve been discovering different hikes, Wonderland Lake, Chautauqua Park, but this past Sunday, I discovered Mt. Sanitas. It’s a grueling 1300′ climb in about a mile, and with my old sea level lungs, pretty intense. However, the path is covered with these sandstone formations, and these formations are covered with these beautiful lichens, so I’m just entranced, even thought I’m panting up the trail. I’ve been reluctant to take photographs because I still feel like a visitor here, but this morning I decided to try it.

I shot this image with my D300, but I hope to be able to lug my 4×5 equipment up here one day.

It’s supposed to snow tonight. I can’t wait till tomorrow morning to enjoy it.

  1. Great to see you posting again, Dan! And even happier to hear you’re finding time to explore your new neighborhood. I like the intimate composition and the beautiful lichen covered boulders. Can’t wait to see more.

  2. Very nice to hear from you again!
I really like how this photograph has different parts, each with it`s own characteristic. And still, everything comes together perfectly.

I guess it`s exciting to explore your new…habitat.
When you struggle with sea level lungs, remember Darwin 😉
Wish you the best of luck and I`m looking forward to see more of your photography, Dan.

  4. Great that you’re all settled in and shooting again 🙂 Can’t wait to see images with your 4×5. I can imagine there must be some amazing things to shoot what with all those colorful rocks and lichens. Do you miss Cali yet? 😉
